源于摄影,与摄影家陈亚军相识,有了一些年头。在长时间的旅美生活中,他用行走与观看丈量着美国的土地,用镜头记录了这片土地上的多元文化。他长期从事新闻媒体工作的经历,使其在海内外推出的《时差》、《曼哈顿》、《第五大道》等摄影作品呈现出经典的纪实风格。他以其敏锐、独特的观察视角,拍摄的那些颇具份量感的开放性的、充满诗意却又饱含忧郁的精彩作品,会让人想起罗伯特?弗兰克(Robert Frank)的《美国人》系列,而他置换了历史时空与影像语境。
It has been a couple of years since photography brought Chen Yajun and me together. During years of residence in the United States, he, as a photographer, measured the land of the United States by walking and viewing and recorded the diverse cultures with his camera. Due to his long-term work experience in the news media, his works such as Time Difference, Manhattan, and Fifth Avenue, displayed at home and abroad, show a classic documentary style. Shot from a keen and unique perspective, his captivating, open, poetic, yet melancholy works are reminiscent of Robert Frank’s The Americans series; however, Chen replaces the time and space of history and image contexts.
这次应邀请在纽约时代广场展出的《空镜头》,是陈亚军在寻求创作突破过程中的另一组新作。其影像外在与内涵,在“所指”与“能指”之间游走,用生动、诙谐、隐喻的视觉表达,探讨并解读了多元文化、多种族融合下的美国社会各个层面的状况。作为一位中国摄影家,在作品中隐匿着他对于东方文化的认识,用极富“美国人”的拍摄手法,游走于东西方之间,体现出了他在精神维度上的不断思考与碰撞。
The Scenery Shot, invited to be exhibited at the Times Square in New York this time, is another group of Chen’s new photographs shot during his process of seeking breakthrough. The image and connotation of this series travel between the “signified” and “signifier.” The vivid, humorous, and metaphorical visual expression explores and interprets different aspects of the multicultural and multiracial American society. As a Chinese photographer, Chen uses a very “American” way in shooting and conveys his understanding of oriental culture in a concealed manner. This combination of the East and West reflects the constant contemplation and spiritual collision in his mind.
这里的三十余幅作品,我们着眼并选取于陈亚军近几年在美国东部与中西部地区的大量拍摄,所展现的细节与场景,虽无人物出现却又无处不在,尽显“叙事”之情。视觉与观看上的“移位”,以及多语境下的艺术表达,正是摄影家还仍然在探讨和追求的方向。
All the thirty or so photographs in the exhibition are selected from the large number of Chen’s photos shot in the Eastern and Midwestern regions of the United States in recent years. Though there is nobody in these pictures, the details and scenes are “narrating stories” everywhere. The “displacement” in vision and viewing, together with the artistic expression in multiple contexts, is what photographers nowadays are still exploring and pursuing.
